Where do we start? Allen Imagery is a new Air Personality for Neo Jazz Radio. He is welcomed to the station as a personality who is well versed in Spoken Word. Also known as A. I., Allen Imagery is a poet, photographer, publisher, graphic (and t-shirt) designer, promoter and recording studio owner. Needless to say, he is an asset to our station as part of our goal is to provide a platform for Spoken Word Artists who uplift can be heard. Neo Jazz Radio believes that it makes sense to offer an outlet for poetic talents to be heard regularly on the air during more than just interviews to speak on their latest project or the next Spoken word event or the next “Open Mic Night”. So, it makes perfect sense to have Allen Imagery as an On-Air personality to help us showcase the many talented Spoken Word Artists we air on our station.
Poetry came to A.I. as an assignment in his Senior Composition class... and he hasn’t stopped yet. Allen Imagery admits that he was NOT a fan of school and even jokes that if he could have just showed up for the social club, he would have been content with that. In the past, his grades reflected his anti-school attitude until he was a part of the poetry unit in school. He began writing poetry then and has continued to gain a following ever since. In April 2004, he released his debut book of poetry and photography: WaterMelanin. In July 2007, he released his first solo Cd entitled: Live Free and Spit Hard.
Allen Imagery has been a photographer for the majority of his life... He had this secret desire to play with cameras since he was young since his step-father ALWAYS had a camera with him. After meeting Gordon Parks when he was about 15, his destiny was solidified. At that point, he was completely amazed by the images his lens was able to capture. There was contrast in his black and white photos and his rugged style. He knew then that photography was his passion! …and he has been moved by it ever since. He prides himself in being unique, which to him is an asset in regard to his eye for photography. He works well independently. He ran a studio for more than 8 years, before he finally left to do bigger things. Neo Jazz radio is proud to announce that his presense on our station as a personality is one of those big and better things. Allen Imagery has a great personality and is a joy to listen to.
